Numerical hydrological model for the spring flooding of the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain: an analysis of the effectiveness of the two-stage hydrograph

Tatyana Dyakonova

Resumen

State of unique territory of the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain (VAP) is determined by the operating mode of of the dam of the Volga hydroelectric power station. The aim of our work is to study of the hydrological regime in the flood for various hydrographs. We used software packages for numerical simulation of the dynamics of surface water, taking into account the main physical factors on the basis of the shallow water model and numerical algorithm cSPH-TVD. Dynamic flood models over the territory of VAP are built for two-stage spring hydrograph using numerical hydrodynamic modeling methods. The effectiveness of the hydrological regime flood is calculated for the hydrographs series given the time spent underwater land. For our models of hydrographs in order to preserve the natural environment the flood effectiveness depends weakly on the form of hydrograph and the optimal mode of HPP is determined by environmental and biological factors.
