Development of Heat Exchanger Control Trainer with IoT System for Smart Manufacturing

Choon Khon Ng

Resumen

The presentation illustrates a method of developing a heat exchanger control trainer with Internet of things (IoT) system for smart manufacturing. Conventional process control trainers had limited improvement capability after purchasing due to fixed software framework. The current control trainers usually only involved PID control in their control systems and did not include IoT system. The objective of the project is to develop an IoT based heat exchanger control trainer and apply the framework into industrial application. IoT technology is the current trend of development in the trend of industry 4.0 to improve the efficiency of manufacturing. The construction of the control trainer involved software and hardware component. The software includes the programming of user interface and the incorporation of control system of PID and fuzzy logic controller. The hardware component consisted of the connection of sensors, pump, Arduino boards, and Wi-Fi modules. The result shows that the system could work in both Offline and Online Mode with IoT in the premises of Wi-Fi coverage. The developed system had the benefits to allow user to study PID control system with tuning method and observation of physical change in temperature and flow. The project could benefit the people who wish to carry our similar projects using it as the reference framework. The control trainer had the potential to incorporate more advanced control systems and apply into industrial application. The control trainer had limitations in signal strength and the hardware performance. The IoT based control trainer had been successfully developed and IoT system should be established in more industries to stay competitive in a changing world.
