Bauhaus Connection

Josenia Hervás

Resumen

The association between the Textile Workshop and the female student was not exclusive. Though there were not many, some women decided to experiment with the final goal of Bauhaus: Architecture, Building, the Total Artwork (Gesamtkunstwert). It can be seen in Wera Mayer-Waldeck?s career, student and then architect, with her own studio and whose life, always linked to her profession, went parallel to Germany?s situation, from the 1920?s to her death in 1964. Member of the Deutsche Werkbund, she organized exhibitions, built and traveled. She met her former professors, Gropius and Mies in the USA, but she also met vanguardist people such as Maria Telkes, a scientist specialized in solar energy. As a committed woman, she participated in various conferences of professional women. She also worked for the German Ministry of Housing. This Ministry was represented by Dr. Engineer Isolde Winter-Efinger, when they welcomed Spanish architects Rodolfo García de Pablos and Carlos de Miguel during their official trip to Germany
