Potato Peels as an Adsorbent for the Removal of Heavy Metals from Aqueous Solution

Resumen

The present work was carried out in order to develop and find out suitable conversion methods for potato peel (PP) wastes into value-added products. It is well known that potato peel waste is agro-industrial wastes. The aim of the present research was to evaluate the suitability of low cost, eco-friendly and freely available potato peel adsorbent for the removal of heavy metal such as copper, iron and lead from aqueous solution. A different parameter used to determine the percentage removal such as amount of adsorbent and also effect of pH. The optimum dosage were identified the amount of adsorbent for removal copper, iron and lead about 1.25 g for all heavy metals. Besides, the optimum pH for all the heavy metal that observed were identified the pH 8. The samples were tested by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). The removal efficiency was calculated by the formula. Removal of 100% efficiency was found. So, the results indicated that potato peel have a potential to the current wastewater treatment technologies.
