Workers? alliance, strike and capitalist necropolitics: Conflict between ?the Indians of the Coast? and the ?Yankees? of the Guggenheim thermoelectric plant in Tocopilla (1923).

Damir Galaz-Mandakovic

Resumen

Due to the relational asymmetry between the managers of The Chile Exploration Company and the workers, the latter made an articulation of forces with another labor group belonging to the Salitrera Company forming the Gremial de Mar y Tierra. Thanks to this type of strategic alliance, an important strike was carried out for better wages that questioned the production of electricity and for that reason, the production of refined copper in Chuquicamata. The strike process is examined in detail at the end of 1923, analyzing the actions and contents of the groups in tension, as well as the reaction on the part of the North American capitalists and agents of the State who observed in the arms the form of dissuasion to conflict.
