SO2- en H2O-adsorpsie op Pt-oppervlakke: ?n DigtheidsfunksionaalondersoekSO2 and H2O adsorption on Pt-surfaces: A density functional theory study

Resumen

Fossielbrandstowwe se nadelige invloed, en die beperktheid daarvan, het groot belangstelling in die ontwikkeling en gebruik van volhoubare energiebronne teweeggebring (Nel et al. 2020). Verskeie alternatiewe energiebronne is tot dusver geïdentifiseer (Kriek et al. 2013; Liberatore et al. 2016). In die besonder is waterstof tans, vanweë sy hoë energiedigtheid en lae omgewingsimpak, as ?n sterk energiekandidaat geïdentifiseer. Gevolgilk is verskeie tegnieke vir die verkryging van waterstof, waaronder die hibriedswaelsiklus (HSsiklus), ontwikkel. In die HS-siklus word swaeldioksied (SO2) en water (H2O) elektrochemies in swaelsuur (H2SO4) en waterstofgas (H2) omgeskakel (Kriek et al. 2013; Ungerer et al. 2021). Platinum (Pt) geniet tans, vanweë die hoë selektiwiteit en sensitiwiteit daarvan, voorkeur as die elektrodemateriaal, maar is skaars en duur. Verder bestaan daar praktiese probleme met betrekking tot die gebruik van Pt as elektrodemateriaal, naamlik vergiftiging deur swawelverbindings en suuroplosbaarheid. Hierdie aspekte noodsaak die ontwikkeling van alternatiewe elektrodemateriale.
