Resumen

People travel to perform various activities at different places and different times of the day. Information and communication technology (ICT) empowers people with virtual accessibility to a wide range of activities obviating the need of physical travel and thus reducing traffic congestion. This paper examined the extent of participation by Bangalore urban dwellers in virtual activities through mobile phone or internet and the impact of ICT usage on activity and travel behavior in Indian context. Structural equation models were developed to determine the relationship among ICT, physical and virtual participation in activities and observed travel pattern. The model results indicate that ICT generates more leisure activities.
