Resumen

The aim of the article is to present a methodology for the construction of a synthetic business cycle indicator in the railway sector in Poland. On the background of business cycle considerations, the previous attempts to present s rail sector in a synthetic form were presented, particularly in terms of liberalization and efficiency for individual EU Member States. The areas included in the indicator were proposed, indicating the need to achieve the optimum between the complexity of its approach and the suitability for management decisions on the rail transport market in Poland.
