Determination of New Biomaterials Derived from Clams Shell as Potential Sunscreen

Nurhidayah Rosli

Resumen

Sunscreen agents are widely used to protect the skin against sunburn, and to prevent the degradation of cosmetics products by sunlight. A good sunscreen agent contains inorganic materials such as Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) and Zinc Oxide (ZnO) also organic materials such as synthesized calcium as its active ingredients. Despite using this material, we discovered the potential of clam?s shell powder as a new biomaterial product with high calcium, phosphate, chitin and protein. The clams shell powder was treated and processed to be in emulsion form. The emulsion product was analysed using thermal, spectroscopy and being compared with the commercial products. The uses of this new materials are an alternative for the safe, organic, less chemical and a good cosmetic product.
